Mosquitoes are rarely seen in the light of the day, as they prefer to be active with sunlight is low. When they are active during the day, mosquitoes are found in shady areas. Especially at dawn and dusk, mosquitoes use light to find their hosts. However mosquitoes do not see light the same way we do.
Mosquitoes typically navigate by using natural light from the moon and stars. Certain artificial lights, then, can be a natural deterrent to mosquitoes who may find themselves disoriented by lights on your property.
A common type of insect or mosquito trap contains a light source that supposedly lures in insects. While this may be the case for some pests, it is not effective with mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are not attracted to ultraviolet or LED light any more than they are to normal lights. LEDs in particular put off less warmth than other bulbs, making them even less attractive to the pests. For this reason, some people may choose to install LEDs to repel mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes are attracted to some colors and repelled by others. Darker clothes in tones of black, gray, or red, will make it easier for insects to find you. Wearing darker clothing traps heat in your body, resulting in more output of your natural scent. Wearing white, khaki, or white-colored clothing, on the other hand, can help to repel mosquitoes. Choosing lighter colors will deter mosquitoes and help keep you cool by reflecting sunlight away.
Although certain types of light can repel bugs, lights neither deter or attract mosquitoes. Mosquitoes simply use light sources to travel. Therefore, using bug lights or light bulbs you may find in the store may not be effective in solving your mosquito problem. Always consult a professional pest control expert to determine the best ways to make your property less attractive to mosquitoes in Louisiana.
